Floor Proximity Exit Signs Where Required

According to the international building code and the international fire code if your building has group r 1 occupancyâ then floor level exit signs are a requirement.

They are existing signs having the required wording in legible letters not less than four inches 100 millimeter mm high. Where floor proximity exit signs are required in chapters 11 through 43 such signs shall comply with 7 10 3 7 10 4 7 10 5 and 7 10 6 for externally illuminated signs and 7 10 7 for internally illuminated signs. Where floor proximity exit signs are required they must be located no less than 6 inches 150 mm and no more than 18 inches 455 mm off the floor. Such signs shall be located near the floor level in addition to those signs required for doors or corridors. In various circumstances an exit sign posted above an emergency exit door is sufficient but there are certain situations where floor proximity exit signs are also required.
According to both the international building code and the international fire code floor level exit signs are required in buildings with group r 1 occupancy. Floor proximity exit signs shall be located with the bottom of the sign six to 18 inches above the floor.
