Floor Patch Over Vinyl

If you can avoid it you should probably not use a leveling compound on a vinyl floor. If any parts of the vinyl or linoleum flooring have begun to bulge up slice out the bulge with as utility knife. You don t need to replace the whole floor just patch the damaged section.

Repairs holes and cracks. First score the vinyl and press firmly so the blade goes through the patch and the floor vinyl. Clean the vinyl floor thoroughly with tsp to remove dirt soap and oil residue. A thin layer of joint compound suitable for indoor use spread over the old vinyl floor will patch up any gaps or dents and the holes left by removing the broken bits of the old vinyl floor.
